To ensure the internal space feel as large as possible, the living areas and the loft are all open. Large exposed ironwood roof trusses ensure the apartments retain some of the character of the old stables. The material such as blackened steel on the internal handrails and tongue and groove ceilings complement the original structure, although they are expressed in a contemporary way.

The old floor was in such poor condition it had to be replaced with recycled blackbutt. Where the old brick walls were in a good state they have been exposed. Elsewhere, they have been rendered. And the contemporary finishes were selected for the kitchen.

Preserving the heritage character of the building was part of the brief for this development. The old brick facade has been retained and cleaned and any new elements are clearly made from modern materials.
